Biographical note: Elisha Warfield, who owned a farm near Lexington, Kentucky, was the owner of the mare Alice Carneal, out of Rowena. From Alice Carneal was bred Darley, later called Lexington, an ancestor of champion thoroughbred Man O' War. Dr. Warfield was instrumental in establishing the Lexington Association Race Course.
